AI Companion Mortality Database

Public database documenting verified deaths associated with AI chatbot interactions.
All cases verified through court documents, news sources, or government acknowledgment.
Last updated: December 20, 2025 | Deaths: 12 | Cases: 13 | Period: March 2023 — December 2025

This database documents verified deaths where interaction with conversational AI systems was identified as a contributing factor. Between March 2023 and December 2025, we identified 12 deaths across 4 platforms, with 1 additional survived attempt. Cases were verified through court documents, multiple independent news sources, or official government acknowledgment.

The data reveals concerning patterns: 33% of victims were minors (ages 13–17), and 2025 alone accounted for 8 deaths—more than all previous years combined. ChatGPT-associated deaths (n=8) exceeded those of dedicated companion platforms. Unlike speculative discussions of AI existential risk, this work focuses on documented, verifiable harms occurring today.
